Open day for tennis on Saturday

Kilcoy Tennis Club will host an open day on Saturday May 22, and will accept enrolments for the new Kilcoy Tennis junior development program.

The Kilcoy Tennis Club will stage a free community open day from 8am to 11am on Saturday, May 22, with any new attendants welcome to become a member.

Social tennis will be on offer while racquets are available, and coaching tips will be provided for anyone wanting them.

Activities for children will also be available, in the form of fun games based learning activities that captivate the child’s attention and require them to perform techniques with fantastic quality so they excel in developing the correct muscle memory.

Additionally, professional coach Jani Kroyherr will accept enrolments for the new Kilcoy Tennis junior development program.

Proceedings will finish with a free sausage sizzle.

While it is hoped that the open day will bring about plenty of fun, Jani is keen to put tennis on the map in Kilcoy as the year unfolds.

Having worked in the tennis industry in a variety of places and previously run the Maleny-based Universal Tennis Academy, Jani is ready to make his mark in Kilcoy.

Jani referred to coaching practice and match play, as participants would learn and develop skills, techniques and tactics, and apply these things when playing a game.

Jani considered group coaching was the best method for entry level, while participants could also have an hour-long one-on-one training session each week, which would include video sessions.

Special events such as tennis camps will also be available from time to time.

“The programs are fun and innovative,” Jani said.
