Strong start for Wamuran-Stanley River in Div 4

HOST team Wamuran-Stanley River made a strong start to its Division 4 cricket contest with Coolum before the visitors mounted a comeback in the two-day match.

Joshua Burton (5/20) and John Nugent (2/6) were the pick of the bowlers as Coolum succumbed for just 50 in 25 overs, before Wamuran-Stanley River reached 4/107 in 26 overs and then declared its innings closed.

Opening batters Damon Murphy (54) and Aaron Phillips (40) provided the bulk of the scoring although the hosts faltered after reaching 0/71, with Glenn Weier bowling out the first four Wamuran-Stanley River batters.

Coolum lost an early wicket in its second innings when Burton claimed his sixth wicket of the day, but the visiting team recovered to 1/60 at the close of play, leading by three runs.

Big run chase looms in Division 6

Wamuran-Stanley River’s batters face a daunting task on day two of the contest with Coolum at Coolum Peregian Sports Complex this coming Saturday, after the home side held the aces on day one.

The hosts amassed 295 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 75 overs on day one.

U12 South: Wamuran-Stanley River Blue 6/197 (J Jennings 51 not out, R Jarrett 48, R Lang 30 not out) beat Caloundra Gold 7/127 (E Shiju 35; R Jarrett 4/9).

U12 South: Wamuran-Stanley River Red 5/148 (S Harvey 29 not out, E Baker 20 retired; A Kinloch 2/21) beat USC Purple 47 (E Baker 2/8).

U15 South: Wamuran-Stanley River 6/274 (K Jarrett 84 retired, J Southgate 55 retired; L Crowe 2/42) drew Caboolture. Match abandoned.
