Tennis club winds up year
KILCOY Tennis Club members and guests had a fun afternoon last Saturday as the Christmas break-up featured hitting a tennis ball on the Kilcoy golf course and tennis courts.
Playing on the golf course was interesting as the participants used tennis racquets and tennis balls to play a range of golfing games.
The first game involved putting on the greens, and the next game involved getting the ball from the fairways to the hole while using tennis equipment rather than golf equipment.
Speed games and relays were also played, and the time at the golf course finished in lighthearted fashion as the attendees bowed down to honour Charlie Webster who won the final game.
At the tennis courts afterwards, the members and guests had a hit of social tennis while the children played a series of games and drills organised by club coach Jani Kroyherr.
Drinks and barbecue food were consumed, and a good social time was had by all.
Having joined the club in mid year, Kroyherr said he was amazed at “how the club has evolved so quickly” in the space of six months, while he also enjoyed the teamwork and camaraderie.
“It’s a pleasure to be a part of this town and this club,” he said.
Club president Gil Todd said there were 57 adult members and 55 junior members at the moment, after there were only six or seven adult members and no junior members two years ago.
Events introduced this year included junior clinics, visiting the Pat Rafter Arena, the Battle of the Businesses, and the first club championships in 26 years.
Kroyherr said those events would return in 2022, while a school championship would be introduced at the primary schools in Kilcoy and Mt Kilcoy.
Kroyherr also said there were plans for an inter-club event through the schools.
The Kilcoy Tennis Club coach also looked forward to new lights and new surfacing at the Kilcoy courts.
