Wamuran trounces Palmwoods
WAMURAN-STANLEY River defeated Palmwoods convincingly in Division 4 and 7 cricket last Saturday, while Tewantin-Noosa was much too strong in Division 6.
Eight-wicket win for Division 4 at home
Palmwoods managed only 89 all out in 36 overs, having fallen to 6/52 and then recovered somewhat before losing 4/6.
All six of the home side’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Josh Burton claiming three, and Tom Cooper and Brad Teske two each, while Tony Runge, Aaron Phillips and Ardal MacMahon had one apiece.
The hosts lost an early wicket before an unbeaten 40 from Teske steered them to victory after just 16 overs.
Addam Nicholson was dismissed for 29 as Wamuran-Stanley River was 23 runs shy of the target, before Lachlan Wright scored a quick 15 not out.
Run chase falls well short
Tewantin-Noosa amassed 4/270 in 40 overs in the Division 6 game at Noosa District Sports Complex, before Wamuran-Stanley River managed only 106 in 23.4 overs.
The home side’s innings yielded 24 fours and 12 sixes, with Shane Gesell and Kent Officer scoring 68 each while Max Cooper (45 not out) and Robert McGhee (40) also batted productively.
Wamuran-Stanley River’s disappointing reply included 24 sundries, with McGhee capturing 5/31.
Six scalps for Rory Shipp
Wamuran-Stanley River opening bowler Rory Shipp claimed staggering figures of 6/9 in 7.1 overs as Palmwoods was dismissed for 155 in the Division 7 match on the Briggs Park Turf.
The total proved insufficient as the visiting team won by five wickets with eight overs to spare.
Palmwoods was in early trouble before a 99-run partnership unfolded for the fourth wicket, only for the hosts to lose their last seven wickets for 26 runs.
Opening batter Troy Marshall’s 50 set up the successful run chase, along with 30 not out from Mark Goves at number three and 16 from Shipp at number five.
Wamuran-Stanley River’s bowlers gave away 33 runs in illegal deliveries, before Palmwoods conceded 27 runs in illegitimate bowling.

U15 South: Caloundra 9/118 (A Friend 53 not out; K Jarrett 3/19, A Goves 2/8) beat Wamuran-Stanley River 101 (K Jarrett 23; J Heck 4/19).
