Stricklands deck the halls and win

THERE is no doubt the Strickland’s Christmas light display in Burpengary East could be seen from space and after years of dedication and an estimated 50,000 lights, they earned the title of this year’s KISS 973’s KIISmas Lights competition winners for Brisbane North.

After starting this year’s display at the end of July, David Strickland has spent two to three hours every day on the display, even working into the early hours of the morning with a headlamp.

A sales rep by day, David said all the lights are set on timers and automated, including a projector in the window which displays a looping cycle of different animations each night.

He said that ever since he was a kid, he always loved putting up Christmas lights. He hopes that he will leave a legacy for his own children to continue – Piper (3) and Noah (1).

David said that whilst they were very grateful to win the KIISmas Lights competition, simply seeing families come out each night to view their display made the hard work all worth it.

After so many years of investing into bigger and better displays, David said there was no doubt they would do it again next year.

“That’s the joy,” he said.

“Hearing the kids laugh, the excitement, makes it really special.”

The Strickland’s Christmas light display at 12 Bedarra Crescent will be on every night until the new year.

The Stricklands were announced as KISS 973’s KIISmas Lights competition winners for Brisbane North on Thursday December 1.
