Sun shines bright for 19th annual Somerset Fun Run
SMILES were shining bright, as were the blue skies, for the 19th annual Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run or Ride last Sunday.
The event, organised by Somerset Regional Council, and sponsored by A and M Civil Contracting had more than 850 participants across the run/walk and cycle categories.
This affordable and fun community event takes place on Australia’s longest recreational rail trail.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said it was great to see so many people enjoying a section of the historic Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.
“Depending on the category entered, participants enjoyed spectacular views from Coominya, Lowood and Fernvale,” Cr Lehmann said.
“It was a crisp morning on Sunday but it turned into a beautiful winter’s day, with plenty of sunshine.
“The event went well, everyone crossed the finish line with smiles on their faces and that’s what this event is all about – having fun.”
Cr Lehmann said more than $2,500 was raised for the Ipswich Hospital Foundation.
