Swimathon seeks support

A charitable organisation, MKP provides weekly I-Groups where men come together to address personal challenges and support each other.

Another part of MKP is attending the organisation’s flagship New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA) weekend.

The swimathon started last year as a collaboration with the Redlands Bayside Rotary Club, as one of its projects to support men’s health and wellbeing.

The swimathon is representative of the seven MKP groups held weekly in Queensland, among more than 30 groups nationally.

The inaugural swimathon raised enough funds to support 25 new men to attend the NWTA, with some of them attending the Bald Hills-based I-Group on Thursday nights.

The Bald Hills group will have a number of swimmers at the Albany Creek Leisure Centre from 8.30am to noon on Saturday April 27, while the Brisbane City group takes part at Cleveland.

In addition to the Woodford and Caboolture regions, the Bald Hills group will involve MKP men from Glass House, Dayboro, Mango Hill, Redcliffe, Brighton, Eatons Hill and Carseldine.

Spectators are welcome to cheer the swimmers on, and to chat about the MKP and the NWTA.

John Abraham and Daniel Nolan will swim in the event for the second time, while Jaysen Knezovich and John’s son Jack are among the first-timers. Recent surgery hasn’t deterred Daniel, although he may need to walk rather than swim laps in the pool.

The organiser of the northside swim, Jaysen, said his life hadn’t been the same since he attended the NWTA, thanks to last year’s fundraising.

Jack, meanwhile, is a special Olympics swimmer from the Moreton North club.

Anyone who would like to sponsor or donate can go online to https://mkpqld.org.au/swimathon/ and use the Donate Now’ link.

Anyone who would like to participate or offer support is welcome to contact Jaysen Knezovich on jaysen.knezovich@gmail.com or 0416 070 589.
