Up and down results for Caboolture cricketers
CABOOLTURE maintained its winning ways in Div 1 cricket last weekend while results were mixed for Caboolture’s other teams.
In the Div 1 battle at Coolum Peregian Sports Complex last Saturday, the host team was dismissed for 177 in 48.1 overs before the visiting side overhauled the target in 40.4 overs with four wickets in hand.
Coolum’s innings was interesting as there were 13 maiden overs, with Caboolture opening bowlers John Flew and Preston White delivering four each.
While the home side’s batters were tied down at times, they were aggressive at other times as the innings included 11 fours and eight sixes.
The run chase, by contrast, featured only one maiden over as Caboolture’s batters tallied 15 fours and three sixes.
Coolum lost its first three wickets at 10, 54 and 66, before a 55-run stand was followed by two wickets without the addition of a run.
Six Coolum players registered double figures but none reached 40, while all five Caboolture bowlers delivered maiden overs and took wickets.
Daniel Bell was the leading wicket-taker with 4/36 while the most economical bowler was Flew, who claimed the last wicket with the first ball of his tenth over after his first nine overs yielded just 20 runs.
Caboolture was shakily placed at 2/21 before Thomas Rowley and Glen Batticciotto added 65 runs for the third wicket.
The game was back in the balance when the departure of the duo, followed by the dismissal of Carter Simpson, left the team 5/107.
White dominated a 42-run sixth wicket stand before the dismissal of Lachlan Ryan renewed Coolum’s chances.
But there were no further hiccups for Caboolture as Flew made 15 not out to help the visitors approach the target.
White finished the match in style as he struck his third six, to finish just two runs shy of a half-century.
Coolum used seven different bowlers, with three capturing one scalp each while Ryan Briggs claimed three.
Run chase falls short in Div 2
Caboolture made a fine but unsuccessful attempt to overtake Tewantin-Noosa’s strong total in last Saturday’s Div 2 clash in Caboolture.
The visitors tallied 208 before the hosts were dismissed for 167.
Jack Williams, Cody Irvin and Jackson Simpson took two wickets each for Caboolture, before Simpson top-scored in the run chase with 56.
Caboolture was 3/106 before regular wickets, including a run out, ruined the team’s chances.
Palmwoods earn the points in Div 3
A total of 131 in 40 overs wasn’t enough for Caboolture in the Div 3 clash in Caboolture, as Palmwoods won by three wickets with nearly nine overs to spare.
Four of the six Palmwoods bowlers shared the eight wickets to fall in Caboolture’s innings, with Michael Ottaway the best of them as he captured 3/25.
Palmwoods was uncertainly placed at 3/42 before a 41-run stand put the team on track for victory.
The visitors stumbled from 4/111 to 7/120, before Peter Gundry guided them to safety as he finished with 56 not out at number three.
Caboolture limps across the line in Div 6
Sundries proved decisive as Caboolture scraped its way to a two-wicket victory over USC at Nirimba Sports Complex.
USC’s total of 98 in 34.2 overs included 29 sundries – all wides – before Caboolture’s total of 100 included 44 wides and two no-balls.
USC tumbled to 5/37 before 31 runs were added for the sixth wicket, and then the score fell to 9/75 before a potentially match-turning 23-run last wicket stand unfolded.
The university team’s skipper Simon Russell top- scored with 25 in the middle order while the next best score was 11 from the last batter, Stephen Robertson.
The run chase would have had a different outcome had there not been so many illegitimate deliveries.
Parth Pandya had economical figures of 0/12 from seven overs, but only two of those runs came off the bat.
Hinterland romps home in women’s tier 1
After securing a breakthrough win the previous Sunday, the Caboolture women’s tier 1 cricketers came back to earth with a nine-wicket loss to Hinterland at The Woods.
Caboolture was weakened last Sunday with the absence of key player Brianna Coffin, but the team still made a good start after winning the toss and batting first, only to lose direction.
Caboolture did not lose a wicket until the total reached 65, but the rest of the batting was disappointing as the team managed only 104 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 30 overs.
Opening batter Gayle Mawer made 34 while there were also that many sundries, including 31 runs from illegal bowling.
Caboolture’s Jear Cochrane bowled Hinterland opener Kyla Skinner for four, but there was no further joy for the visitors as the hosts raced to the target in just 13.3 overs.
Mel Shelley blasted seven fours and a six in her 44 not out from 29 balls, while Belinda Ottaway found the boundary six times in her unbeaten 39 from 49 balls.
Caboolture defends total in women’s tier 2
The Caboolture women’s tier 2 team enjoyed its first win of the season, as the team contested home side Glasshouse Gold last Sunday.
The visitors tallied 127 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs, before the hosts were restricted to 3/101.
Mary Dhot (30 not out) and Adelyn Eakin (29) stood out with the bat for Caboolture.
Glasshouse Gold lost two wickets before a run was scored, and Caboolture did enough to contain the scoring rate despite three batters tallying 74 runs from 81 balls.
The hosts also rued conceding 53 sundries, compared to the visitors’ 18.
