David Rakowski and a group of friends will come through Woodford and Kilcoy on Saturday August 20, on their way to the BaconFest event in Kingaroy.

Forty people from Brisbane will spend time in each of the towns, supporting the local businesses, especially the local pubs!

Host of the trip David Rakowski said, “We are coming to meet the locals, so please keep an eye out for the group of 40 in the grey Legend Caps with the locally made patches.

“We understand the challenges that small businesses face in the region, from devastating floods, drought then Covid and now staff shortages, so we simply want to bring city money to the bush, to do our bit to contribute to the region.

“If we have any cash left over from the bus tickets, we just put it all on the bar!

“It’s about leaving everything in the town, and if the last trip is anything to go by, a few drunken stories may be left too!

“We stop at each town along the way, buy a few rounds, have a quick bite and head to the next town.

“It’s a great reason to get out of the city, get some fresh air, get our dancing shoes on for a big night out and blow off some steam.”

David said that early this year, he saw an ABC live news report of the devastating flood around the South Burnett, in particular around the Tansey area.

David jumped in his car from Brisbane and went to help, starting at the Tansey Bowls Club with the pressure hose, and he was attracted to the spirit of the region.

He was also drawn to the positivity of the locals, even during a very difficult time.

But David said he knew the town well and truly needed a break and that after the adrenaline passed of the experience of flooding, the sadness could well and truly kick and that plenty more would need to be done.

With the help of the local Lions and the kindness of local businesses, David organised a free community breakfast which included face painting, live music, jumping castles, tennis, bowls, horse rides and plenty of raffles.

“The day was about giving locals a good reason to take a well-deserved deep breath, a reason to re-connect again as a community and have a few laughs, before getting back to the long clean-up,” he said.

With the help of the Murgon Services Club which donated $30,000, they raised around $50,000, which went towards the Tansey bowls, tennis, Community Centre and Showgrounds.
