Councillor Tony Latter presented a cheque to Woodford Lions Club members Lynn Barling and Carol McLeod at the Lions Den in Woodford on Monday, August 22.

This year’s carnival, scheduled for 5pm on November 25, will be the first since 2019 after Covid caused the community event to be cancelled for consecutive years.

“It’s great to be able to support the Lions to get the Woodford Christmas Carnival to return this year,” Cr Latter said.

“The Woodford Lions do a lot for the community and I know this is one of the events that they are passionate about delivering for the community.

“I’m looking forward to being involved on the night and am told that it will be bigger than ever and will return with a bang.

“I look forward to seeing the community out on the night, celebrating Christmas and everything that makes Woodford a great place to live.”

Woodford Lions Club president David Kearns said the organisers of the carnival were very pleased that the event was acknowledged as being a very important part of the Woodford and surrounds calendar.

Many regular and familiar participants will feature in this year’s parade, with Woodford State School P-10 students starring in the Lantern Parade as usual.

The Ulysses Club, Stoney Creek Rural Fire Brigade, and Woodford Show Society will show off their vehicles and bikes, and Woodford Ambulance will run a lucky wheel draw for hams.

Various food trucks and market stalls will have ample options to choose from, and the Woodford Lions will run their traditional barbecue.

This year will feature two raised stage areas with an outdoor and indoor venue, with many different performers providing family entertainment.

Performers will include Pine Rivers Big Brass Band, Mama Buluku dance troupe, Mouth Orchestra Maleny, Caravan, Monkey Bong Band, the drummers and school choirs from Woodford, Mt Mee and Delaneys Creek schools, just to name a few.

Entry will be free.

Queries can be made to Carol and Lynne on 0416 056 738.

More information will be provided closer to the day.
