Woodford welcomes new caretakers Bec and Mick

AFTER taking over the reins as caretakers at Woodford Showgrounds in mid-November, Bec and Mick said they have been warmly welcomed by locals and are excited to take on this new role.

Making the move from Stanthorpe, the duo who have never worked as caretakers said they were ready to try something different and saw that their combination of skills and experiences would make them the perfect candidates.

Managing caretaker Mick owned his own welding business and worked on a number of cattle and horse properties whilst Bec, who will act as assistant caretaker, had worked for over 30 years as a manger in both Queensland and NSW health. “It was time for a new career,” Bec said.

Their main duties as caretakers include booking campers and caravans into the showgrounds and keeping the grounds tidy and safe.

Bec said that she has been overwhelmed by the support they have received by locals and the Woodford Show Society, although she admits she has struggled a bit with the humidity.

“The first week I was here, the humidity knocked me for six.”

Woodford Show Society president, Peter Ostman, said the duo have already started to make some positive changes, and the committee is very excited to have them on board as they start planning for 2023.
